IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR CAMPERS

What To Bring | About Camp | Schedule | Safety | Minors

What to Bring: Necessities
  • Flashlight and batteries. You MUST bring a good flashlight and extra batteries. The camp roads and paths are not lit at night, and a flashlight is required. Please label your flashlight with your name.
  • WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU BRING A SLEEPING BAG EVEN IF YOU ARE RENTING LINENS AND BLANKETS, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A COLD SLEEPER. Even with warm days, the nights could be quite chilly this time of year.
  • Bring lots of warm clothes (Sweats, T-shirts and soft baggy clothes you can layer). September weather can range from balmy days to quite chilly at night. Remember what they say about New England: "If you don't like the weather, wait a few minutes." Be prepared for anything from low 80's days to nights which could dip below 40.
  • Sweater and jacket
  • Boots or waterproof shoes
  • Rain gear and umbrella
  • Plenty of T-shirts and socks
  • Deodorant
  • Toothbrush, toothpaste, soap and shampoo
  • A warm sleeping bag, towel(s) and pillow if you are not renting blankets and linens.
  • Alarm clock
  • Medications, like Ibuprofen & Pepto Bismol
  • Walk around shoes. Please bring comfortable shoes for walking around camp. Running shoes or tennis shoes are excellent. Please change into your dance shoes before each class to help keep the floors clean. You must change into clean dance shoes whenever entering the Dining Hall for meals, classes or dances.
  • Multiple pairs of dance shoes. All the classroom floors are wood, with different finishes. Please bring as many pairs of dance shoes as possible, since some floors are more slick than others and sometimes if your knees or feet get tired you'll want something with good support.
  • We do not permit talcum powder or other powders on any classroom or dance floors, for safety reasons. Please do not bring powder for the floors.
What to Bring: Nice to Have
  • A fitted single sheet to go under your sleeping bag.
  • Pens and paper
  • Swiss-army knife
  • Small shaving or make-up mirror
  • Ace bandage/knee brace just in case
  • Camera (plus film, flash, and batteries!)
  • Band-Aids
  • Moleskin --you WILL be on your feet a lot!
  • Earplugs
  • Nail clippers
  • Safety pins
  • Hangers - (there won't be enough!)
  • Cord and clothespins for improvising a clothesline.
  • Flip-flops and a cover-up
  • Warm sweats or PJ's to sleep in.
  • A hat for the sun and a warm hat in case it's chilly.
  • Bathing suit
  • Some dressier dance clothes for the Saturday and Sunday night dances.

About Camp Wicosuta

A Real Summer Camp
There have been summer camps on Newfound Lake since the turn of the century, and Camp Wicosuta is currently enjoying its 86th summer. It was built as a summer camp for girls, and supports a healthy rustic lifestyle. The setting is very beautiful, and we're looking forward to a long end-of-summer weekend of great classes and Lindy Hopping.

SPECIAL SHOE REQUIREMENT:
Two of our classrooms, The Dining Hall and the Gym, feature custom dance floors supplied by Bill Cameron of Dance Pro's, and the other two are painted wood. Please wear only clean dance shoes. You must change into clean dance shoes whenever entering the Dining Hall for meals, classes or dances. Do not walk or dance on these floors with shoes you have been wearing walking around camp. For safety reasons, we do not permit talcum powder or other powders on any classroom or dance floors. Please do not bring powder for the floors.

Linen Rental
Linen rental is available for $20, payable before you arrive at camp. This includes blankets, sheets, pillow and case, and towel. Please notify us in advance by email or phone if you wish to rent linens and did not indicate this on your registration form.

Individual items will not be available for rental, so if you are not renting linens please remember to bring a warm sleeping bag, towel(s), and a pillow and bottom sheet if you want to have these.

Minors
Any person 17 years or younger at the start of camp has to be accompanied by a guardian. The guardian needs to sleep in the same cabin as the minor and has to be registered for the camp. The guardian may either be the minor's parent/legal guardian or an adult they assign to be guardian while at camp. If a guardian is assigned, a Liability Release, Medical Release and Waiver are required before the minor can be registered.

The Liability Release can be a letter that states that the parent/legal guardian identifies and appoints the temporary guardian for the period the minor will be attending Swing Out New Hampshire 2007, and in addition states that Camp Wicosuta and Swing Out New Hampshire, LLC are released of any liability while the minor is attending Swing Out New Hampshire 2007.

The Medical Release can be a form obtained from a health care provider (it will be called something like Authorization for Medical Treatment of Minors). Alternatively it can be a letter that states that the assigned guardian (give their name) is authorized to make emergency medical decisions for treatment by a hospital or physician should an injury occur to the minor. It should include any relevant medical information including health care provider details (name, telephone number, policy number). It must be signed by the parent/legal guardian and include their contact information (telephone numbers, address).
