What Campers Say

When I was young, my favorite part of every year was going away to summer camp. Thirteen years ago I started Swing Out New Hampshire because I wanted to share my TWO favorite things – the fun of summer camp and my love of Lindy Hop! Swing Out New Hampshire is a dance camp focusing primarily on Lindy Hop, and offering four full days of classes and five nights of dancing at Camp Wicosuta in Hebron, NH.

SONH brings together many of the best dance teachers in the world and hundreds of friendly, enthusiastic dancers, for a total immersion experience. Camp Wicosuta is a real kids' summer camp in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, surrounded by trees and hills, with both a pristine mountain lake and an outdoor swimming pool. SONH offers many summer camp activities, such as a campfire sing-a-long, communal dining and housing, swimming in pristine Newfound Lake, scenic walks, the SONH Cabaret, tennis, volleyball and basketball courts, as well as SWOGA (Yoga for Swing Dancers) and an on-site massage therapist. We learn, dance, eat, sing and play together, having a true summer camp experience!

At SONH, we are undistracted by cars, television and newspapers (but we do provide a good wireless signal). Our curriculum focuses on connection – to our partners, to our own bodies, to the dance floor and to the music – giving you tools to help you experience the full joy of social dancing. Our campers go home renewed and inspired. All our teachers love to social dance themselves, and join in the evening dancing.

SONH is a favorite of the instructors, and 2011 will be the thirteenth year for Steven & Virginie. It will be the ninth for Manu Smith, the eighth summer for Joel Plys, the seventh for Skye Humphries, the fifth for Frida Segerdahl and Evita Arce, and the fourth for Nathan Bugh and Emily Vanston. Over the years the SONH campers and instructors have created an exceptionally friendly atmosphere and culture where more advanced dancers go out of their way to dance with and encourage dancers from all levels. Please read some comments from campers and comments from teachers.

The basic cost for SONH includes all classes, dances, meals, regular cabin accommodations, snacks and activities. The only extras are an optional bus from and to Logan Airport in Boston, the very limited supply of semi-private accommodations and the optional rental of blankets and linens if you don't bring your own sleeping bag (or blankets) and towel.

I hope you can join us this summer!
